The Experimental Teaching Center of the School of Agriculture and Life Sciences was founded in 2011. It consists of 12 basic laboratories: Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Botany, Elemental Analysis, Genetics, Microscopic Analysis, Zoology, Biopharmacy, Cell Engineering, Fermentation Engineering, Microbiology, and Middle School Biology Teaching Methodology. The center forms a comprehensive experimental teaching system covering everything from microscopic molecules to macroscopic organisms.
The center has 53 full-time and part-time experimental instructors, of which 58.5% hold senior professional titles (31 professors and associate professors) and 67.9% hold doctoral degrees (36 staff members).
Guided by the university’s philosophy of cultivating application-oriented talents, the center supports the experimental teaching of basic and specialized courses in the school, focusing on developing students’ practical skills and innovative awareness. Leveraging its academic strengths and advanced equipment, the center actively cooperates with enterprises and public institutions to serve local economic development. In November 2023, the Datong Key Laboratory of Organic Dry Farming for Characteristic Crops was approved and established by the Datong Municipal Science and Technology Bureau. In December 2024, the Datong Key Laboratory of Degraded Soil Improvement and Biological Regulation was also approved by the same bureau.
Molecular Biology Laboratory
Equipped with PCR instruments, gel imaging systems, molecular hybridization ovens, constant temperature shakers, high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, ultra-low temperature freezers, etc. It mainly provides experimental teaching for courses including Molecular Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and Genetic Engineering.
Biochemistry Laboratory
Equipped with nitrogen analyzers, refrigerated centrifuges, UV-visible spectrophotometers, carbon plate transfer electrophoresis apparatuses, dual-plate vertical electrophoresis apparatuses, biochemical incubators, etc. It mainly offers experimental teaching for Biochemistry and Biochemical Analysis Technology.
Botany Laboratory
Equipped with light incubators, artificial climate chambers, UV-visible spectrophotometers, photosynthesis analyzers, leaf area meters, plant canopy analyzers, etc. It mainly provides experimental teaching for Botany, Plant Physiology, and Ecology.
Elemental Analysis Laboratory
Equipped with pH meters, electric thermostatic incubators, spectrophotometers, amino acid analyzers, electric blast drying ovens, portable dissolved oxygen meters, atomic absorption spectrophotometers, soil environment analyzers, graphite digesters, glass electric homogenizers, etc. It mainly supports experimental teaching for Comprehensive Experiments in Protected Agriculture, Soil and Fertilizer Science, Urban Agricultural Architectural Design, and Greenhouse Architecture and Structure.
Genetics Laboratory
Equipped with clean benches, automatic computerized incubators, multifunctional digital microscopes, trinomial stereomicroscopes, binocular biological microscopes, etc. It mainly provides experimental teaching for Animal Physiology and Protected Plant Protection.
Microscopic Analysis Laboratory
Equipped with biological tissue embedding machines, computer-controlled rapid freezing and paraffin slicing machines, multifunctional digital microscopes, etc. It mainly offers experimental teaching for Botany, Protected Fruit Tree Cultivation, and Fundamentals of Landscape Design Art.
Zoology Laboratory
Equipped with automatic cell analyzers, physiological amplifiers, small animal ventilators, small animal desktop anesthetizers, biomedical signal acquisition systems, automatic cell counters, stainless steel constant-temperature rabbit dissection tables, etc. It mainly provides experimental teaching for Zoology Experiments, Human Histology and Anatomy, and General Biology.
Biopharmacy Laboratory
Equipped with intelligent particle detectors, Shimadzu gas chromatographs, high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, UV-visible spectrophotometers, etc. It mainly conducts experimental teaching for Fermented Drug Analysis and Detection, Protein and Enzyme Engineering, and Bioreactor Engineering.
Cell Engineering Laboratory
Equipped with small vacuum centrifugal concentrators, CO₂incubators, clean benches, autoclaves, full-temperature shaking incubators, UV-visible spectrophotometers, etc. It mainly offers experimental teaching for Cell Engineering and Cell Biology.
Fermentation Engineering Laboratory
Equipped with full-wavelength chromatographic scanners, computer-connected UV-visible spectrophotometers, automatic high-pressure axial compression column chromatography, microwave reaction (extraction) equipment, magnetic stirring stainless steel fermenters, etc. It mainly conducts experimental teaching for Bioseparation Engineering and Comprehensive Experiments in Fermented Pharmaceuticals.
Microbiology Laboratory
Equipped with desktop high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, spore observation microscopes, UV spectrophotometers, clean benches, autoclaves, constant-temperature incubators, trinocular microscopes, etc. It mainly provides experimental teaching for Microbiology and Food Microbiology.
Middle School Biology Teaching Methodology Laboratory
Equipped with food safety detectors, ultrasonic cell disruptors, texture analyzers, desktop high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, freeze dryers, moisture analyzers, digital Abbe refractometers, automatic polarimeters, upright microscopes, portable microbial detectors, rotary viscometers, intelligent electric heating steam generators, etc. It mainly conducts experimental teaching for Food Sensory Evaluation, Food Nutrition, Food Technology, and Fermented Food Science.
